Wayne, Young Earn VaSID All-State Accolades

NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion women's basketball juniors Ajah Wayne and Amari Young have earned spots on the VaSID All-State team, announced by the organization Thursday afternoon.

Wayne averaged 15.5 points and 9.7 rebounds with a 53% field goal percentage, which led the ODU squad. The Birmingham, Alabama native helped lead ODU to the C-USA Semifinal as a six seed, earning herself a spot on the C-USA All-Tournament Team. At the C-USA Tournament, Wayne averaged 22.5 points, 11 rebounds and 2.5 steals. For the season, Wayne compiled nine double-doubles through 18 games played.

Young averaged a double-double, scoring 13.6 points with 11.2 rebounds. The North Augusta, South Carolina native was named to the 2021 Second Team All-C-USA and All-Defensive Team. She helped lead sixth seeded ODU to a semifinal appearance in the Conference USA Tournament. Through 22 games played, Young compiled nine double-doubles and recorded a career-high 31 points against Charlotte in the C-USA Quarterfinal. Young picked up 24 rebounds twice this season, and finished the season top-25 in the country in defensive rebounds (166).
