NORFOLK, Va. – The No. 16-ranked Old Dominion field hockey team is set to face No. 6 Liberty in the semifinals of the BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship on Thursday, April 22 at 4 p.m. at the Conshohocken Proving Grounds in Conshohocken, Pa.

ABOUT ODU
The Monarchs are making their sixth appearance in the BIG EAST Championships since joining the conference for the 2013 season. The ODU field hockey program is a 15-time conference tournament champion and a nine-time national champion. Last season, the Monarchs made the championship game as the No. 2 seed before falling to top-seeded UConn, 2-0.

Old Dominion received the tournament's No. 3 seed following an 8-3 conference campaign in the regular season. The Monarchs wrapped up the season with a two-game sweep of Providence. ODU ranks fifth nationally in assists per game (2.75) and is second in the conference and 10th nationally with just over seven penalty corners per game.

On the individual front, Marlon de Bruijne leads all Division I freshmen with 12 goals and 24 points. The native of Den Bosch, Netherlands is fourth in the BIG EAST in both total goals and total points and was named BIG EAST Co-Freshman of the Year earlier on Wednesday.

In total, six Monarchs were honored with All-BIG EAST accolades. De Bruijne was first team all-conference and was joined on the first team by unanimous selection Delphine Le Jeune. Nicole Fredricks, Marlee McClendon, Riley Taylor and Rina Tsioles all made the second team.

ABOUT LIBERTY
The Flames received the No. 2 seed in the championships thanks to a 10-2 mark in conference play. Liberty is 8-2 in its last 10 games and enters Thursday on a four-match winning streak.

LU is second in scoring in the BIG EAST with 3.73 goals per game and allows just one goal per game. Jill Bolton and Danielle Rhodes are second and third, respectively, in the conference in points per game, and Rhodes led all BIG EAST players with 16 goals.

THE SERIES
Old Dominion and Liberty are meeting for the 13th time overall and the fifth time this season. The Monarchs are 1-3 against Liberty this season and scored a 2-1 victory over the then-No. 4 Flames on March 26.

The two sides are contesting a conference semifinal for the third time since 2017 and are 1-1 against each other in the BIG EAST Championship. Last season, the Monarchs knocked out the Flames, 3-1.

WHAT'S NEXT
The winner of the match advances to the final, set for noon on Saturday, April 24 and will play either top-seeded UConn or No. 4-seeded Temple. The Huskies are looking for a ninth-consecutive BIG EAST championship.
