CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Old Dominion men's tennis team took down East Tennessee State by a 4-1 score in a neutral site match on Wednesday afternoon at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex, which is on the campus of Charlotte. The Monarchs have claimed victory in five of their last six matches, as well as nine of their last 12 matches.
"I think we bounced back after a tough loss over the weekend with our best overall performance of the year today," expressed ODU head coach Dominik Mueller. "Our guys were locked in and won all the important moments and points. ETSU was one of the hottest teams in the past month, so I couldn't be prouder of our team."
The loss snapped ETSU's (10-7) six match win streak. In their last six matches, the Monarchs have outscored their opponents 26-9.
ODU (9-8) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after securing the doubles point with wins from No. 52 Luca Maldoner/Nicola Vidal (7-6) and Tomislav Podvinski/Pearse Dolan (7-6).
Picking up straight set victories in singles for the Monarchs were Nicola Vidal (6-1, 7-5), Francois Le Tallec (6-2, 6-3) and Younes Lalami (7-6, 6-1).
Old Dominion will be right back in action tomorrow, Thursday, April 15 at 1 p.m., when the Monarchs take on Charlotte at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.
