KENNESAW, Ga. – The Old Dominion men's tennis team (4-7) fell to Kennesaw State (2-7) by a 4-3 score on Thursday afternoon at the Betty Siegel Outdoor Courts.
ODU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point, picking up victories from Luca Maldoner/Nicola Vidal (6-3) and Tomislav Podvinski/Francois Le Tallec (6-4).
The Owls responded by winning the first four singles matches, clinching the team victory; however, Oliver Tobisch (6-4, 4-6, 6-3) and Maldoner (4-6, 7-5, 7-5) pulled out three set wins for the Monarchs.
"This one is going to hurt for a while," said ODU head coach Dominik Mueller. "We still have too many guys that think they need to feel perfect and hit the ball perfectly all the time to win matches. And that's on us as coaches to fix."
Four of the six singles matches required a third set on Thursday afternoon in Kennesaw.
Old Dominion will be right back in action tomorrow, Friday, March 5 at 11 a.m., when the Monarchs take on Georgia State in Atlanta. ODU will complete its three match in three days road trip on Saturday, March 6 at 10:30 a.m. at UAB.
