SUNSET, S.C. – Following 27 holes of competition at the Clemson Invitational, the Old Dominion women's golf team sits in a tie for seventh place on the Reserve at Lake Keowee. As a team, ODU turned in an opening round 298 (+10) and is currently seven-over through nine holes of the second round.

"It was a long day playing 27 holes as a fivesome. Having to change the format of your sport is uncharted territory but we handled it incredibly well," said ODU head coach Mallory Hetzel. "We played well and are very close to playing our best golf. Our team is definitely hitting its stride. We have a quick turn around for tomorrow's round and the focus will be on taking it one shot at a time. We are in a great position with two rounds to play."
Freshman Elsie Verhoeven carded a two-over 74 to record her best round as a Monarch. She compiled three birdies in round one. Jana Melichova shot a four over 76 in round one. Sophomore Pilar Muguruza and Noemie Sudron round out the Monarch scoring, recorded a 77 and 80, respectively.
ODU recorded the second-most pars (90) in the field of 18 teams. They are currently ahead of three top-50 ranked squads and tied alongside No. 8 Virginia and 40 Louisville.
Due to impending weather in the area, the tournament is expected to be completed tomorrow with 27 more holes left to play. It will be a shot gun start with live scoring of the event on Golfstat.
