NORFOLK, Va. – The No. 17 Old Dominion field hockey team closes out the home portion of its schedule when it welcomes fourth-ranked Liberty to the L.R. Hill Sports Complex for a pair of BIG EAST matches on Friday and Saturday. Friday is slated for an 11 a.m. start with Saturday's contest set to begin at 2 p.m. 
 
ABOUT ODU
The Monarchs return to competition for the first time since March 6 and 7, when they dropped a pair of road matches to the Flames. Those losses snapped a nine-game winning streak in BIG EAST play.
 
Marlon de Bruijne paces Old Dominion with 10 goals and is second nationally with 1.43 goals per game. Riley Taylor has handed out seven assists and ranks second in Division I with one assist per game. As a team, the Monarchs average 2.57 assists per contest – sixth-best nationally.


 
ABOUT LIBERTY
The Flames enter the weekend atop the BIG EAST standings. Most recently, Liberty notched a 3-2 win over No. 12 Duke in double overtime.
 
Liberty leads the conference in both scoring average (3.60) and scoring defense (0.90) and boasts the services of Daniella Rhodes and Jill Bolton. Rhodes paces the conference with 31 points and 13 goals. Bolton is second in the BIG EAST in points (29) and leads the way with nine assists. Goalkeeper Azul Iritxity Irigoyen is tops in the conference in goals against average (1.03) and save percentage (.860).
 
THE SERIES
Liberty holds a 6-4 all-time edge in the series. The Flames swept the Monarchs earlier in the season, 4-1 and 2-0.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
ODU travels to Conshohocken, Pennsylvania for a pair of BIG EAST contests with Quinnipiac on April 9 and 10.
 
COVID POLICIES
The L.R. Hill Sports Complex will welcome 600 fans on a first come, first served basis. The main gate opens 60 minutes prior to the start of the match. Spectator parking is available in Lot 43. Tailgating is not permitted.

Fans in attendance must comply with the following guidelines:

  • Mask required for entry. No gaiters.
  • Maintain social distancing while in the facility.
  • No large gatherings inside the facility (10+).
  • Please sit in the stands in the designated locations.
  • Wash hands frequently.
