NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion (13-4) baseball team is set to face VCU on the road Tuesday, March 23 at 3 p.m. The contest marks the second half of a home-and-home midweek series with the Rams.
VCU (9-9) defeated the Monarchs, 12-5 on March 17 in Norfolk.
The road game will stream on ESPN+ and will air across the ODU Sports Radio Network, with coverage from Ted Alexander on Money Talk 1310.
Following ODU's loss to VCU, the Monarchs took down Richmond, 4-3 on the road. Freshman Carter Trice delivered a two-run homer in the top of the fifth inning to tie up the ball game, 3-3. Andy Garriola then capitalized off a Richmond wild pitch in the fifth to take a 4-3 advantage the rest of the way.
The Monarchs rank top-10 in the nation in home runs (30) and slugging percentage (.512). Individually, freshman Robbie Petracci paces ODU with a .381 batting average.
Freshman Jacob Gomez (1-1, 3.68 ERA) is set to make his first collegiate start on the mound for ODU. He has made four appearances, compiling eight strikeouts in 7.1 innings of work.
About VCU
Since the Rams last played ODU, they have dropped back-to-back contests against Liberty. At the Diamond, the Rams are 4-2. Liam Hibbits leads the VCU offense with a .368 average, while Tyler Locklear has compiled 25 RBIs.
This will be the 156th all-time meeting between the former CAA foes.
