ODU Outshoots FAU 12-2 in 2-0 Victory Over the Owls

NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women's soccer team was too much for Florida Atlantic the Monarchs handed the Owls their first league loss of the season by a 2-0 score on Friday night at the ODU Soccer Complex. The shutout was the fourth of the season for ODU.

"This is a big result," said ODU head coach Angie Hind. "FAU is a very good team and we knew we had to be at our best to get the win. I thought our performance as a collective unit was excellent tonight. Defensively, we were really strong and going forward I thought we were dynamic and created a good number of chances. I am so proud of the team tonight."
 
Just 10 minutes into the match, Megan Watts tucked away her second goal of the season off an assist from Amanda Nhek to give the Monarchs an early 1-0 lead.
 
In the opening frame, Old Dominion (3-4-1, 2-2-0 C-USA) outshot Florida Atlantic, 6-0.
 
Ece Turkoglu made it a 2-0 lead from the Monarchs after finishing an Erica Carpenter pass. The goal was Turkoglu's first of the season.
 
FAU (2-3-2, 1-1-1 C-USA) didn't attempt its first shot until the 67th minute of the contest.
 
For the match, ODU outshot the Owls, 12-2, while holding a 7-5 advantage for corner kicks.
 
Kasey Perry made one save for Old Dominion.
 
With the victory, the Monarchs jump FAU for third place in the league's East division. The top eight teams (top four out of seven teams from each division) during the regular season, as determined by points, will advance to the C-USA Tournament in Houston on April 13-17.

Old Dominion will return to the pitch on Thursday, March 25, when the Monarchs travel to Huntington, West Virginia for a 5 p.m. match against Marshall.
