NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women's lacrosse team begins its inaugural campaign in the American Athletic Conference when it hosts East Carolina on Friday, March 19 and Sunday, March 21. Both games start at 1 p.m.
ABOUT ODU
The Monarchs dropped a pair of games to in-state foes last week. ODU lost 14-8 to Liberty on Wednesday before a 19-2 loss to No. 17 Richmond on Sunday.
Against the Flames, Claire Porter scored three goals and added two assists for a career-high five points. Porter has nine assists on the year, the most in a single-season in her career and the fifth-most in the conference.
On Monday, the American named Lauren Carey its Freshman of the Week. Carey caused three turnovers and grabbed six ground balls in ODU's two games last week. The native of Chester Springs, Pennsylvania ranks second in the conference and 64th nationally with 1.71 caused turnovers per game. Her 2.57 ground balls per game are fifth-best in the American.
ABOUT EAST CAROLINA
The Pirates enter the weekend with a 2-4 overall mark and on a two-game losing streak. ECU lost 12-9 to Jacksonville in its last contest. Megan Pallozzi scored four goals in the loss and ranks third in the American with 18 on the season. Goalkeeper Ashley Vernon ranks second in the conference in saves (54) and save percentage (.621).
THE SERIES
The new conference rivals are meeting for just the second time. The Monarchs topped the Pirates 15-8 at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex on March 15, 2019. Glory Johnson netted six goals in the win, and Lilly Siskind added a pair of markers as well.
WHAT'S NEXT
ODU wraps up its season-opening 11-game homestand with a pair of conference games against Temple on Friday, March 26 and Sunday, March 28. Friday's game starts at 4 p.m. Sunday is slated for an 11 a.m. start.
COVID POLICIES
The L.R. Hill Sports Complex will welcome 600 fans on a first come, first served basis. The main gate opens 60 minutes prior to the start of the match. Spectator parking is available in Lot 43. Tailgating is not permitted.
Fans in attendance must comply with the following guidelines:
- Mask required for entry. No gaiters.
- Maintain social distancing while in the facility.
- No large gatherings inside the facility (10+).
- Please sit in the stands in the designated locations.
- Wash hands frequently.

The "Monarch Cutouts", presented by Chartway, are available for $59. Monarch Cutouts purchased for ODU field hockey will be placed in a highly visible area of the L.R. Hill Sports Complex and will stay up throughout the spring, for the entirety of the ODU field hockey and women's lacrosse seasons. Photos of the fan cutouts will be posted on social media throughout the season.
