NORFOLK, Va. – Emily Roberts (Severn, Md.) of the Old Dominion women's soccer team was named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week presented by Surf & Turf Golf, as announced by league officials on Tuesday afternoon.
Roberts played a long pass from just outside of the midfield line into the box, which found teammate Morgan Hall, who one-timed the ball into the back of FIU's net to give ODU a 1-0 lead in the 62nd minute in Miami. Roberts' assist helped lift the Monarchs to a 2-0 win and their first victory in league play. Roberts also anchored ODU's defense to its third shutout this season. Roberts, a team captain, has played every minute of every match so for this season.
Roberts and the Monarchs will return to the pitch on Friday, March 19, when the Soccer Monarchs welcome Florida Atlantic to the ODU Soccer Complex for a 7 p.m. start. Friday's game will stream on CUSA.TV. To accommodate Monarch fans as a result of the difficult circumstances related to the pandemic, the ODU Athletics department is pleased to offer free admission to all home ODU soccer matches for the 2021 season.
A total of 824 fans will be allowed to attend home ODU soccer games due to COVID-19 restrictions. Fans will be admitted on a first come, first served basis. The gate on 43rd Street will open 60 minutes prior to kickoff. Fans can park in Lot 43.
