NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion baseball team will host VCU for a midweek contest at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex on Wednesday, March 17 at 3 p.m
To accommodate Monarch fans as a result of the difficult circumstances related to the pandemic, the ODU Athletics department is pleased to offer free admission to all ODU baseball games for the 2021 season. The Bud Metheny Baseball Complex will now welcome 750 fans on a first come, first served basis.
ODU is coming off a 4-0 week, highlighted by a series sweep over Ball State and a midweek road win at William & Mary. ODU leads the C-USA in batting average (.299), wins (12), hits (163), RBIs (118), doubles (38), slugging percentage (.533) and on base percentage (.394). The ODU pitching staff has struck out 170 batters in 142 innings of work.
Robbie Petracci (.421, 4 HR, 10 RBI) leads the Monarchs in hitting and paces ODU in on base percentage (.488). Andy Garriola leads the NCAA in RBIs (27) and is one of two Monarchs, along with Tommy Bell to start all 15 games this season. 11 different Monarchs have tallied a home run so far this season.
On the mound, Luke Vaks (1-0, 9.00 ERA) will get the ball on Wednesday for his second career start.
About VCU
The Rams have won seven of their last nine games, including a ranked win over No. 18 Virginia Tech on March 10. VCU was selected to finish atop the A-10 Conference. The Rams have compiled 19 home runs, which ranks top-25 in the NCAA.
