PINEHURST, N.C. – Carter Morgan carded a 1-under 70 in the final round to finish tied for seventh at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate. The Old Dominion men's golf team also ended in a tie for seventh at 48-over 900 (300-295-305) on the par-71, 6,937-yard Pinehurst No. 8.
"With the exception of senior captain Carter Morgan, the rest of the team really struggled today," head coach Murray Rudisill said. "It was a very disappointing finish for the Monarchs. Carter played great golf the last two rounds. We will work really hard for our next event. The team plays very well in practice rounds, but we cannot seem to carry that over to the tournament competition. We will be working on both our physical and our mental approaches to the game in the next few weeks. We have a really talented group of fine young men, and we will get better."
Morgan improved his score across all three rounds of the event. After completing the front nine at 1-over 37, the senior from Tappahannock, Virginia recorded birdies on three of his final four holes. Morgan ended up in a three-way tie for seventh at 6-over 219 (77-72-70) and was the only Monarch to turn in an under-par round at the event.
