SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Old Dominion women's golf team finished fifth at the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational hosted by UTSA on Wednesday afternoon. Junior Leah Onosato finished as the runner-up with her final round even-par 72. Her 72 marks her best round of the 2021 season.
"It was great to move up a spot and finish top five. We battled the wind all day," explained ODU head coach Mallory Hetzel. "We hope this prepares us well for what we will face next week at Briar's Creek. It was great to see Leah finish in second place against such a strong field. She's been working so hard and this course was perfect for her game."
Heading into the final round, ODU sat in sixth. The Monarchs' final round 311 lifted them past Southern Methodist by three strokes. Leah Onosato averaged two-under on par 5s, second-most in the field of 53.
Individually, Jana Melichova finished in a tie for 14th, carding a 77 on Wednesday. Melichova recorded seven birdies over the week, third-most in the field.
Senior Noemie Sudron compiled a 236 through 54 holes to finish in a tie for 29th. Playing as an individual, Elsie Verhoeven finished behind Sudron, finishing her tournament with an 80 to take 37th. Pilar Muguruza matched her first round score, with an 82. Justine Lauer and Madison Corley round out ODU scoring, compiling and 85 and 89, respectively.
