HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Old Dominion women's basketball team defeated Marshall, 80-70 Friday evening on the road. Senior Victoria Morris poured in 21 points, which was highlighted by 15 fourth-quarter points.

ODU (6-5, 3-4 C-USA) has now won eight of the last nine matchups against Marshall (4-7, 3-6 C-USA).

With 4:57 left in the fourth quarter and the contest knotted, 66-66, Morris drained a triple and Aziah Hudson added a jumper to flip the momentum down the stretch. The Herd answered by drawing an ODU foul, but Morris once again responded with a four-point play, giving ODU a seven-point lead with just over one minute to play to seal the victory for the Monarchs.

"Late in the game, we knew Marshall could not keep up with us laterally," said head coach DeLisha Milton-Jones. "We wanted to put them in situations where we were attacking the rim and the basket, whether it was in our dribble weave or our dribble drive sets, or an on-ball screen action that has a savage roller or a guard attacking hard off the dribble. When we put Marshall in that situation, we were able to find some plays."

Also in double figures for the Monarchs was Maggie Robinson, who finished with 18 points, four rebounds, one assist and one block. Hudson poured in 13 points, while freshman Lanay Wheaton added a career-high 11 points.

In the first quarter of action, ODU and Marshall matched up evenly, wrapping up the first 10 minutes of action, tied 20-20. The Monarchs dictated much of the second quarter, outscoring the Herd, 21-12 and heading into the locker room with a 41-32 advantage.

After the break, Marshall took control and outscored ODU, 19-14 through the third period. Despite the vigorous effort from Marshall in the third quarter, ODU went into the fourth quarter holding on to a four-point lead.

Overall, the lead changed 10 times, which also featured nine ties.

Old Dominion will be right back in action tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 p.m. against Marshall. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and is slated to air on ESPN Radio 94.1 with Doug Ripley's pregame coverage beginning at 2:30 p.m.
