RICHMOND, Va. – The Old Dominion men's tennis team (4-6) had its four-match win streak snapped in a 5-2 loss against VCU (3-0) at the Thalhimer Tennis Center on Friday afternoon. Prior to today's match, ODU's last setback came on Feb. 2 at Virginia Tech.
"All the credit goes to VCU today," said ODU head coach Dominik Mueller. "I thought our guys battled hard, but VCU did a great job making us hit the extra shot and executing when necessary. Margins are slim and they did a better job today in that marginal game."
Luca Maldoner picked up a three-set win for the Monarchs in singles, taking down Charles Bertimon (7-5, 3-6, 7-6).
Also picking up a singles win for ODU was Younes Lalami, who defeated Timo Zgraggen in straight sets (6-3, 6-2).
Old Dominion will be back in action on Thursday, March 4, when the Monarchs travel to Kennesaw, Ga. for a match against Kennesaw State.
