Wrestling to Honor Seniors in Regular Season Finale

Kenan Carter is one of seven Monarch wrestlers who will be honored at Sunday's senior day

NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion wrestling team wraps up its regular season by celebrating its senior class during a Sunday matinee match against Mid-American Conference (MAC) opponent Bloomsburg at 1 p.m.
 
The Monarchs have won five of their last six matches, including a 2-0 road trip last weekend against Navy and George Mason. Senior Timothy Young dispatched No. 25 Jacob Koser of Navy in a 5-3 decision and earned a 16-5 win by major decision over George Mason's Ramses Montalvo to win both of his bouts. Kenan Carter and Antonio Agee also came out victorious twice last weekend. 
 
At 141 pounds, Sa'Derian Perry earned a ranked victory over No. 32 Alex Madrigal of George Mason for the second Monarch victory over a ranked opponent of the road trip. 
 
Killian Cardinale and Larry Early are both riding hot hands entering Sunday's match, as Cardinale has won six of his last seven bouts while Early has won five of his last six. 
                                                                                                                               
Early, Cardinale and Perry are all featured in the latest national polls that came out earlier this week. Early checks in at 11th in the country at 157 pounds, while Cardinale was placed at 16th at 125 pounds, both according to Intermat. Perry is featured in TrackWrestling's poll at No. 22 in his weight class. 
 
In the latest NCAA coaches' panel and RPI rankings, Early, Cardinale and Shane Jones were featured on both lists. Early was the highest-ranked Monarch in both instances, checking in at 10th in the RPI and 11th on the coaches' panel at 157 pounds.Cardinale can be found in the top-15 on both lists, checking in at the No. 11 in the RPI rankings and No. 14 in the coaches' poll, while Jones was ranked at 31st and 32nd in the RPI rankings and the coaches' poll, respectively. 
 
Perry rounded out the top-25 in the coaches' panel and Carter was featured at No. 28 in the RPI rankings.
 
Senior Day
The Old Dominion wrestling program will honor the collegiate careers of its seven seniors in a pre-match ceremony. Antonio Agee, Kenan Carter, Larry Early, Shane Jones, Steven Simpson, Sa'Derian Perry and Timothy Young will all be recognized for their efforts on the mat while attending ODU.
 
Martin Chasing History
Head coach Steve Martin is currently one win shy of tying the all-time wins record by a head coach in program history, a record that is currently held by Pete Robinson, the original head coach of the wrestling Monarchs. Robinson earned 172 victories while leading the program for 26 years from the inception of ODU wrestling in 1957 to his retirement in 1983. 
 
Martin, who is in his 16thseason at the helm, currently sits at 171 career victories at Old Dominion.
 
About Bloomsburg
The Huskies have lost six of their last seven matches, four of which have come by three points or less. Currently in its first season in the MAC, Bloomsburg has yet to win a conference dual this season, going 0-7 against MAC foes. 
 
In its last dual against George Mason on Sunday, Bloomsburg wrestlers earned five wins on the mat, four of which came with bonus points, but the Patriots' Jake Slinger earned a major decision victory in the final bout to give GMU the 21-19 victory. 
 
The Huskies have one ranked wrestler on their roster, and that's Trevor Allard at 184 pounds. Allard checks in at No. 18 in the latest NCAA coaches panel rankings. The redshirt senior has won 18 of his 20 bouts this season, including a 9-1 mark in duals. In his career, Allard has 90 wins. 
 
Series History
Sunday marks the fifth all-time meeting between ODU and Bloomsburg, with the Huskies winning three of the first four matchups. The last time these two programs faced off against each other was in 2008, when the Monarchs earned a 30-6 victory.

Admission is free for students with a valid ID. Standard admission is $6 while seniors, youth and military can purchase tickets for $5 each. 
 
Pre-Match Social
At every home match this season, ODU wrestling has hosted a pre-match social located in the Big Blue Room one hour prior to the start of the match. The Big Blue Room will open at 12 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, close at the start of the action, and then reopen during intermission. All fans are welcome to the social. Soda, water and adult beverages will be available.
