NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion wrestling team (1-5, 1-1 MAC) will be competing in the 40th Annual Virginia Duals on January 10 and 11 at the Hampton Coliseum. The event starts on Friday morning at 11 a.m. when the Monarchs take on the University of Pennsylvania (0-1, 0-0 EIWA).

If ODU wins its match on Friday morning, they will take on the winner of the No. 22 Virginia vs. Kent State matchup on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. If the Monarchs fall to Penn, they will face the loser of the Virginia/Kent State match later on in the day on Friday at 3 p.m. To see the full bracket click the link at the top-right of the article.

The Monarchs are coming off of an 0-4 showing at the South Beach Duals, an event where they faced three of Intermat's top-20 teams, Missouri, Minnesota and Wyoming, along with South Dakota State, in two days. ODU is led by No. 11 Sa'Derian Perry, No. 13 Larry Early and No. 15 Killian Cardinale. Perry was named the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Wrestler of the Week on December 31 after going 3-1 in the South Beach Duals, including taking down No. 8 Grant Leeth of Missouri. Early also went 3-1 in Florida, defeating No. 33 Dewey Krueger of Wyoming, while Cardinale leads the team with three wins over ranked opponents.

This year marks the 28th time the Monarchs will participate in the in-state tournament. Last season, ODU finished in fifth place behind Virginia Tech, Virginia, Oklahoma State and Arizona State. The Monarchs went 2-2 in the event, beating Kent State and Chattanooga.
