NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion and ESPN Radio 94.1 have partnered together for Throwback Thursday Monarch Rewinds to air great ODU games of the past. This week's rewind is ODU's first Conference USA football game, a 45-42 thriller at defending league champion, Rice.
"I've been here at the station for 21 of the 27-year partnership with ODU Sports. We are excited to bring back some nostalgic games to re-air for ODU fans and alumni to reminisce," said Keith Barton, Vice President and General Manager of Max Media of Hampton Roads. "We can't wait to get back to live sports and events here in Hampton Roads, but for the short term, I hope everyone enjoys some ODU Sports Radio!"
ODU play by play announcer Ted Alexander and football color analyst Andy Mashaw are on the call.
On a steamy September day in Houston, the Monarchs battled back and forth with the Owls, before ODU took a 35-14 lead when Taylor Heinicke tossed his fourth touchdown pass of the day, this one to Zach Pascal. But Rice fought back to tie the score late, but left just enough time for the Monarchs to drive 67 yards in a minute, highlighted by a 45-yard Heinicke to Pascal connection that set up Ricky Segers with the game-winning 25-yard field goal.
