BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Ryann Bauer of the Old Dominion lacrosse team was one of five Division I women's lacrosse finalists selected for the 2020 Yeardley Reynolds Love (YRL) Unsung Hero Awards, the One Love Foundation announced on Tuesday morning.
The YRL Unsung Hero Award recognizes the accomplishments of men's and women's collegiate lacrosse players from Divisions I, II and III who demonstrate dedication, integrity, humility, hard work, community service, leadership, kindness and sportsmanship.
Although Bauer didn't play this season due to injury, the senior was a vocal leader on the bench during both games and practices. Also, thanks in part to Bauer's efforts in the community, the Monarchs were second in the nation among Division I women's lacrosse programs in community service this season, according to Helper Helper.
The West Chester, Pennsylvania native is joined by Oregon's Maddie Clark, Duke's Samantha DeBillis, James Madison's Halle Duenkel and Virginia's Lauren Martin as the five finalists for the award from Division I women's lacrosse.
The winners of the YRL Unsung Hero Award, which will be announced later in the month, will receive a silver bowl and the One Love Foundation will make a donation in their name to the charity of their choice.
The One Love Foundation was founded in honor of Yeardley Love, a former member of the UVA women's lacrosse team who was tragically killed by an abusive boyfriend just weeks before graduating. One Love's mission is to educate young people about healthy and unhealthy relationships, empowering them to identify and avoid abuse and learn how to love better.
