Gustav Fransson individually placed in the top-three for the third time this season at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate

PINEHURST, N.C. – Junior Gustav Fransson finished in a tie for second place as the Old Dominion men's golf team finished in seventh at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate, hosted by Pinehurst Resort and Country Club this weekend.

Fransson, who had been among the top-three the entire tournament, ended his three-round total with a 6-over 219. After posting scores of 72 and 71 in the first two rounds, respectively, the Monarch finished Sunday with a score of 76, putting him six strokes behind Graham Hutchinson of Elon who came out on top of the individual leaderboard. This was Fransson's third top-three finish in his last four outings. The native of Umea, Sweden was also just one of two golfers to register and eagle in the tournament, which happened yesterday on the par-five second hole.

Fellow countryman Rasmus Konradsson was consistently in the top-15 over the weekend, and he ended Sunday's final round with a 5-over 76, the same score he posted in round two. Konradsson finished the tournament in a tie for 14th place at 14-over par. It was the junior's second-best finish of the season so far, after finishing in the top-five at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate in the fall.

Senior Carter Morgan, who had a rough first round on Friday, bounced back nicely in the second and third rounds, posting a score of 3-over 74 on both Saturday and Sunday. His 74 on Sunday was the best mark by a Monarch in the final round. Morgan finished in a tie for 43rd in the field of 81 golfers. His final two rounds propelled him to move up 30 spots on the leaderboard, as he was sitting in a tie for 73rd place after Friday's showing.

After struggling in the second round, Doug Rios Ceballos came back with his best round of the tournament on Sunday morning, entering the clubhouse with a 4-over 75 on his scorecard. The Monarch senior, who started at the sixth hole, birdied two of his final three holes to end the tournament tied for 61st.

Freshman Filip Wetterqvist struggled for most of the tournament and ended Sunday's round in 73rd place after posting back-to-back scores of 86 in the final two rounds.

The Monarchs' seventh-place showing out of 13 teams, albeit their worst of the season, still continues their streak of top-10 finishes to start the 2019-2020 campaign. Elon ended the tournament on top with a team score of 878, 20 strokes better than second-place finisher Davidson. Radford and Belmont round out the top-three in a tie with a score of 902.

ODU will hit the links again this upcoming weekend, as the Monarchs will head to Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. to compete in the Mission Inn Collegiate.
