PINEHURST, N.C. – After a second-round score of 307, the Old Dominion men's golf team sits in a tie for fifth place at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club.
Junior Gustav Fransson finds himself in second place on the individual leaderboard after posting an even-71 in the second round of action, just two strokes off of first place. Fransson registered two birdies, and he eagled the second-hole par-5, the only eagle in the tournament so far. Fransson, who is 1-over par after 36 holes, trails Elon's Graham Hutchinson, who sits at 1-under par.
Rasmus Konradsson's second round score of 76 was one stroke behind the 75 he posted in the first round on Friday, as he is settled into a tie for 12th place at 9-over par. The junior posted 13 pars and one birdie on Saturday.
The Monarch who improved the most from yesterday's round was Carter Morgan, who shot a 3-over 74 after posting an 86 after the first 18 holes. The Tappahannock, Va. Native birdied two of the final four holes to finish his day with some momentum heading into tomorrow's final round.
Filip Wetterqvist and Doug Rios Ceballos struggled on the links on Saturday, posting an 86 and an 88, respectively. After two rounds, Rios Ceballos is tied for 67th, while Wetterqvist is tied for 69th.
ODU is tied for fifth with Drexel at 45-over par with a team score of 613. Elon, who is the only school to post a team score of under 300 for both rounds, sits atop the team leaderboard at 585. Davidson, Radford and Longwood are placed second, third and fourth respectively going into Sunday's final round.
The third round will begin with a shotgun start on Sunday morning at 9 a.m. The Monarchs who are looking for their fifth top-five performance in six tournaments this year, will be paired with golfers from Longwood and Drexel for round three.
