NORFOLK, Va. – Francois Musitelli (Dijon, France) of the Old Dominion men's tennis team was named the Conference USA Athlete of the Week on Wednesday afternoon, as announced and voted on by league officials.
After dropping the first set, Musitelli upset the No. 33 nationally ranked singles player, Joshua Charlton, of Oregon in three sets 5-7, 7-6 (11-9), 1-0 (10-8). Musitelli went 2-0 in singles for the week, while helping lift ODU to a 4-1 victory over New Mexico in Eugene. Musitelli and the No. 50 nationally ranked Monarchs are now 11-3 on the season. Old Dominion has won eight of its last 10 matches.
The Tennis Monarchs will return to the courts on Saturday, March 21, when ODU travels to Philadelphia, Pa. for a match against Temple. The following day, Sunday, March 22, the Monarchs will square-off against Penn.
