NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion lacrosse team opens its season at home at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex on Saturday, February 8 when it takes on Coastal Carolina at 1 p.m.

The Monarchs are coming off of a season where they went 4-13, 1-5 in their first season in the BIG EAST Conference. In the conference's preseason poll, ODU checked in at fifth out of the six teams, behind No. 10 Denver, No. 19 Georgetown, Villanova and Marquette and ahead of Butler.

After her 53-goal season a year ago, the fifth-most by any Monarch in a single season, senior Glory Johnson was named to the preseason All-BIG EAST team. Johnson, Mary Katherine Maloney and Anna Davis were named the three team captains earlier in the offseason by head coach Heather Holt.

Sophia Richie, the Monarch's second-leading scorer behind Johnson last season, is no longer with the team after graduating, but Lilly Siskind is looking to build off of a successful freshman campaign. Siskind led ODU with 14 assists and tallied 11 goals for a total of 25 points, a mark that placed her third on the team.

Defensively this season, the Monarchs have two new goalkeepers on the roster, as Brianna Blatter joins the squad as a transfer student, while Sabrina Leatherwood comes in as a freshman.

About Coastal Carolina
The Chanticleers were tabbed to finish third in the ASUN Conference's preseason poll. In addition to the third-place selection, Coastal Carolina had three student-athletes named to the preseason all-conference team; Emily D'Orsaneo, Megan Kilpatrick and Samantha Courtemanche.

CCU finished last season with a 12-6 record and earned a spot in the ASUN Championships, where they lost in the first round against Liberty.

Series History
The Monarchs and the Chanticleers have met three previous times, each coming in the last three seasons. ODU came away with a 13-12 win in the first battle between the two teams back in 2017, but Coastal Carolina was victorious in the following two matchups.

Last season ODU traveled to Conway, South Carolina to open the 2019 campaign with the Chanticleers winning, 19-10. Johnson scored four goals on 10 shots  for the Monarchs in the loss.
