CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Old Dominion (22-3, 12-1 C-USA) women's basketball team will hit the road to take on a pair of C-USA foes in Charlotte on Feb. 20 and Marshall on Feb. 22. Both contests will be streamed on CUSA.TV while Doug Ripley will have the call on ESPN 94.1.
Following ODU's wins over Rice and North Texas last week, the Old Dominion women's basketball team received votes in the most recent USA Today/WBCA Coaches Poll. The last time ODU received votes in the coaches poll was over a decade ago on December 18, 2008. Nikki McCray's Monarchs were also named NCAA Team of the Week as announced by the organization Tuesday afternoon. The win over Rice snapped its 30 conference game win streak on Feb. 13 in overtime at the Chartway Arena.
Individually, Ajah Wayne was named C-USA Player of the Week after her standout performance in both contests. The sophomore recorded a team-high 21 points against the Owls, which was followed by a double-double against the Mean Green.
About Charlotte
After ODU earned the feat of downing Rice, Charlotte did the same on Saturday. They took down the Owls by a 62-51 score to hand them its second league loss of the season. After the Charlotte win, ODU earned sole position of first in the league. Including the win over Rice, Charlotte is on a three game win streak heading into Thursdays' game.
Jade Phillips paces the way offensively and defensively for Charlotte. The redshirt senior averages 15.2 points per game while grabbing 9.4 rebounds per game. In the league, she has third most defensive rebounds overall.
On Jan. 11, the 49ers and the Monarchs went down to the wire in Norfolk. ODU went on a 11-0 scoring run in the fourth quarter to pick up its first win over Charlotte since 2017.
