NORFOLK, Va. - Ryan Teschko delivered a two-out, two-run double to put Old Dominion University baseball on the board as they defeated Towson 5-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex. Ryne Moore led the way on the mound followed by two relievers to start 2-0 on the 2020 season.

Chris Dengler led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a bunt single and Matt Burch later walked before Teschko's double. Matt Coutney reached on a throwing error by the Towson second baseman that allowed Teschko to score.

That was all the scoring Moore and the Monarch pitching staff needed. Moore earned the win, pitching 5.2 innings, allowing two hits and striking out five. Michael Parmentier and Jason Hartline closed out the shutout with a combined 3.1 hitless innings.

ODU tacked on two insurance runs in the seventh. Coutney delivered a bases loaded walk and Tommy Bell drove in a run on a fielder's choice.

"The story of the game was pitching. Ryne Moore gave us a quality start, Michael Parmentier did a good job cleaning up the sixth and Jason Hartline did a good job," head coach Chris FInwood said. "He pitched like a veteran. He's going to keep us in it and he did a good job for us."

ODU takes on the Tigers on Sunday, Feb. 16 at 1 p.m.
