Women’s Hoops Returns Home to Host Charlotte Saturday

NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion (11-3, 1-1 C-USA) women's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 2 PM to host Charlotte (10-3, 1-1 C-USA) in a conference showdown. The game will be a C-USA TV broadcast as well as on the airwaves on 1310 the Power with Doug Ripley and Susan Montgomery on the call.  

The Monarchs are looking to rebound from their first league loss in UAB on Jan. 4. At one point, the Monarchs were trailing by 26 points but nearly came back in the fourth quarter with 34 points scored, their most points scored in a quarter since moving to that format in 2015-16. Aziah Hudson and Victoria Morris led the Monarchs with 12 points each.

Morris, the Ohio native continues to lead the pack in scoring, averaging 11.6 points per game. Defensively, Amari Young leads the league in steals, averaging 2.6 steals per game. Freshman Marie Reichert has added 24 blocks this season, which is good for 61st in the nation.  

About the 49ers
Charlotte is also coming off a loss in Middle Tennessee last weekend. Notably, just the opposite of ODU, the 49ers defeated UAB but fell to the Blue Raiders. Charlotte only has three losses on the season in Fordham, #14 Kentucky and MTSU. Individually, Jade Phillips leads the Charlotte team in scoring, averaging 15.5 ppg. Phillips also leads in rebounding, averaging 10.2 rpg.

ODU has not defeated the 49ers since February 19, 2017, when they edged Charlotte 72-70 on the road. Despite dropping the last four contests to the 49ers, ODU continues to lead the all-time series with a 14-10 overall record.
