NORFOLK, Va. –Old Dominion University men’s and women’s swimming head coach Carol Withus has resigned from her position after 26 years, Withus announced on Thursday.

In her 26 years as the leader of the pool, Withus was a six-time conference coach of the year, earning the honor four times in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA), and once as a member of Conference USA and the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA).

“We appreciate Carol’s efforts over the last 26 years as head coach of our swimming program,” ODU Director of Athletics Dr. Wood Selig said. “Carol coached eight swimmers to the NCAA Championships and her teams often received CSCAA Scholar-America accolades, while her teams were routinely among the best academic performers of all ODU teams.”

Withus has also coached the most prolific swimmer in CAA history, Mary Kay Bolduc, who became the first athlete (male or female) to win four CAA Swimmer of the Year honors (1995-99). Former Monarch, Kara Fichthorn won the same title during her tenure (1999-03) with the team, giving Old Dominion and Withus the honor of having the CAA's best female swimmer in five of nine years.

Jess Livsey has been named the interim head coach. A national search will begin immediately.
