CLEVELAND, Ohio – Old Dominion wrestling's Sa'Derian Perry has been selected as the Mid-American Conference (MAC) East Division Wrestler of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Perry had an impressive showing the past two days at the South Beach Duals, going a combined 3-1 in the four duals the Monarchs wrestled in. Perry's biggest win came in the first dual of the event, as he earned a 7-3 win by decision victory over 2018 All-American and MAC Champion, No. 8 Grant Leeth of Missouri. Perry got the better of Leeth in the third period of their bout, winning the period, 4-1 to give him the 7-3 win by decision over the All-American.
In the three total victories he had during the South Beach Duals, Perry outscored his opponents 22-8. The only loss he endured in the two-day event was a tight 4-2 decision against No. 2 Mitch McKee of Minnesota. In that bout, Perry held McKee scoreless in two of the three periods.
Perry's performance in the South Beach Duals increases his record to 10-3 this season. Currently, the 2018 All-American is ranked in the top-15 in the four latest national polls, checking in at 13 in Intermat and WIN Magazine's polls, and 14 in FloWrestling and TrackWrestling's rankings.
The Monarchs will hit the mats again on Saturday, January 4, when ODU competes in the Franklin and Marshall Open in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The following week, ODU will compete in the Virginia Duals, a two-day tournament that begins on Friday, January 10 in Hampton, Virginia.
