NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion lacrosse head coach Heather Holt announced today the release of the upcoming 2020 lacrosse season schedule, as well as the three captains that will be leading the Monarchs this season, seniors Anna Davis, Glory Johnson and Mary Katherine Maloney.

ODU is scheduled to play 17 games in the spring of 2020, 10 of which will be played on its home turf. The Monarchs are looking to bounce back after finishing with a 4-13 record and missing the BIG EAST Championships in their first season with the conference a year ago.

The Monarchs will welcome Coastal Carolina, VCU, Radford, Davidson, Richmond, Quinnipiac, Campbell, Delaware State and BIG EAST foes Denver and Georgetown to the L.R. Hill Sports Complex. In their road contests, they will take on Winthrop, William & Mary, Longwood, East Carolina, and their three remaining conference games, Marquette, Butler and Villanova.

The season will open with an afternoon contest at home against Coastal Carolina on Saturday, February 8, followed by another home match on February 12 against VCU. The Monarchs will hit the road for the first time the following Saturday to take on Winthrop in the Eagles' opening game of the year. Last season, the Monarchs were able to hold off a late surge to beat the Eagles, 11-10 for their first win of the year.

Old Dominion will then travel to nearby Williamsburg to take on William & Mary on Wednesday, February 19, looking for its first road victory against the Tribe since the 2012 season. The Monarchs will wrap up its February slate of games with a home match against Radford and a Leap Day contest at Longwood.

The Monarchs will play five-consecutive home matches from March 4-17, starting with a matchup against Davidson. Richmond, Quinnipiac, Campbell and Delaware State will all be coming to Norfolk before the Monarchs hit the road again to face East Carolina on March 21.

The following week, ODU kicks off its stretch of five-straight BIG EAST contests when it travels to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to take on Marquette. The Monarchs remain on the road to take on Butler, wrapping up a three-game road trip.

The Monarchs return home to face Denver, last season's BIG EAST regular season champions, on April 11. The Pioneers reached the quarterfinals of the 2019 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship before getting bounced by eventual champion Maryland, 17-8. Old Dominion will then play its final road match at Villanova the following week.

ODU will wrap up the regular season at home against last year's BIG EAST Champion Georgetown on April 25. The Hoyas reached the second round of the 2019 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship but fell to No. 5-seed Syracuse, 14-8.

This season's BIG EAST Women's Lacrosse Championships will take place on the campus of Georgetown in Washington, D.C., with the semifinals being played on Thursday, April 30 and the final match scheduled two days later on May 2.

Captains
Seniors Anna Davis, Glory Johnson and Mary Katherine Maloney have all been named team captains heading into their final season with the Monarchs.

Davis patrols the defensive backfield, as she is coming off of a season in which she caused nine turnovers and picked up 17 ground balls.

Johnson, the offensive attacker in the group, led the Monarchs with 53 goals and 60 points last season and was named BIG EAST Second Team All-Conference and VaSID Second Team All-State.

Maloney grazes the midfield for ODU. Last season she registered 11 goals and seven assists, while causing 22 turnovers and collected 27 ground balls on the defensive side of the ball.

Both Davis and Maloney are entering their fourth year at Old Dominion, while Johnson joined the team in her sophomore season of 2018. All three captains started all 17 games last season, a feat only three other Monarchs achieved in 2019.
