IRVING, TEXAS - Old Dominion University football senior defensive tackle Mufu Taiwo was named the ODU recipient of the Conference USA Fall Spirit of Service Award, C-USA announced on Friday.
The award honors the league's student-athletes with significant community service endeavors, good academic standing and participation in their sport. The Spirit of Service award is presented three times throughout the season, with today's honorees representing fall sports: men's and women's cross country, football, men's and women's soccer and volleyball
A redshirt senior from Waldorf, Maryland, Taiwo has volunteered with several organizations including, but not limited to, SEES Student Leaderships Council, power Cross Football camps, Hampton Roads Youth Foundation, Pride Patrol, Operation Christmas Child, Bone Marrow Drive, Children for Humanity and various others.
On the field, he played in 11 games this season, while starting three at defensive tackle. He had seven tackles and three tackles for loss.
Taiwo has already earned a bachelor's degree in cyber operations and is working on a master's of science in sport management.
