CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Old Dominion (3-0) women's basketball team looks to extend their win streak to four as they face Virginia (2-3) on the road Sunday at 2 pm in John Paul Jones Arena. Nikki McCray's Monarchs are most recently coming off a 68-44 win over Winthrop on Wednesday.
In the Monarchs win over Winthrop, Amaya Register led the team in scoring with a career-high 16 points. Freshman Marie Reichert also grabbed a career-high six rebounds and 11 points. This past week, sophomore Ajah Wayne was named C-USA Player of the Week for her outstanding 35-point career-high night at Auburn.
About Virginia
The Cavaliers are coming off a loss to a top-5 opponent in #4 Connecticut. The Huskies dominated Virginia by a 83-44 final score. Despite falling to Connecticut, the Cavaliers have picked up two wins this season in Bucknell and CSUN. They were picked to finish 11th in the ACC Preseason Poll.
Individually, Virginia is led by Jocelyn Willoughy, who averages 18.3 points per game. Willoughy also averages 8 rebounds per game, which leads the team. She was named ACC Player of the Week on Nov. 11 for her 31-point performance against Bucknell.
