NORFOLK, Va. – Redshirt sophomore Killian Cardinale has been named the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Wrestler of the Week on Wednesday afternoon.
Cardinale has been a force on the mats early on this season, and he proved that this past week at the Journeymen Collegiate Classic. The 125-pounder went 2-1 on the day, with his first win coming against No. 8 Brock Hudkins of Indiana in a 2-1 win by decision.
Cardinale then went on to a 2-1 win by decision over Oklahoma's Tommy Hoskins before ultimately falling to No. 19 Brandon Pretzel of Lehigh in the championship bout in his bracket.
The Bristow, Virginia-native has collected a 5-1 record to start the season. In the first week of the season at the Battle at the Citadel, Cardinale won his bracket, going a perfect 3-0 on the day.
The Monarchs are hitting the road to face No. 9 NC State this Friday, November 15 at 7:00 p.m. in their first dual meet of the season. The wrestling Monarchs will spend the weekend in Raleigh, as the team will also compete in the Wolfpack Open on Sunday, November 17.
