CHARLOTTE, N.C. – In the 2019 regular season finale, the Old Dominion women’s soccer team (10-4-4, 4-4-2 C-USA) took down Charlotte (12-5-0, 7-3-0 C-USA) by a 1-0 score on Friday night at Transamerica Field. ODU outshot Charlotte 15-3 in the second half. The win marked Old Dominion’s 10th victory of the season, a program high under head coach Angie Hind

Emma Gervase drilled the pill into the back of the 49ers net off a free kick in the 17th minute to give the Monarchs an early 1-0 lead, one in which they would hold onto for the rest of the way. The goal was Gervase’s first of the season.

“We knew we had to win tonight to keep our hopes alive of making the tournament,” said Hind. “We discussed this week that we would go at them and give it everything and that’s exactly what this team did. I thought we were absolutely fantastic against a great Charlotte team. I’m immensely proud of this group of young women and talented soccer players. They are first class and tonight again showed that.”

In the 50th minute, Megan Watts nearly made it 2-0 for the Monarchs, as Watts’ curving shot clanked off of the 49ers’ right post.

Charlotte’s Kristy Campbell received her second yellow card of the match in the 68th minute, allowing ODU to play a man-up the rest of the way, as the Monarchs would not relinquish their 1-0 lead, lifting Old Dominion to victory in the Queen City on Friday night.

For the match, ODU outshot UNCC 18-7. Kasey Perry finished with five saves in net for Old Dominion.

After going undefeated in non-conference play, the Monarchs ended the regular season league play unbeaten in six of their last seven matches.

The clean sheet was the fifth of the season for Old Dominion. ODU finished the regular season with a 5-2-2 road record and a 5-2-2 record on its own pitch.
