HUNTINGTON, W.V. - The Old Dominion women’s soccer team (6-3-2, 0-3-0 C-USA) fell to Marshall (4-8-0, 2-2-0 CUSA) by a 3-2 score in double overtime (103’) at Hoops Family Field on Thursday night. ODU outshot Marshall 17-13 for the match.

“After taking an early 2-0 lead we should have been comfortable and composed enough to go on and build on that, but we were naive defensively,” said ODU head coach Angie Hind. “Our performance tonight was simply not good enough and in this conference, that’s what can happen if you don’t manage the game properly.”

Just 31 seconds into the match, Ece Turkoglu played a long pass into Kyra Ricks, who slotted a ball into the back of the Thundering Herd net to give the Monarchs an early 1-0 lead.

Loes Van Loon made it a 2-0 ODU advantage after beating the Marshall keeper from deep in the 16th minute.

Marshall cut its deficit in half, 2-1, in the 27th minute off a Marah Abu-Tayeh goal.

For the half, Old Dominion held an 8-5 advantage in the shot department.

Abu-Tayeh leveled the score at 2-2 for the Thundering Herd in the 52nd minute.

After playing to a scoreless second half, the two headed to overtime in Huntington. The Monarchs took the only three shots of the scoreless first overtime.

Alyssa Mar Totzke ended the match 2:17 into the second overtime session, lifting Marshall to a 3-2 victory.

On Sunday, Oct. 6 at 2:00 p.m. ET, ODU will take on WKU (6-3-1, 2-1-0 CUSA) at WKU Soccer Complex in Bowling Green, Ky., which will stream on Hilltopper Sports Satellite Network (HSSN) on Facebook.
