NORFOLK, Va. – FloWrestling has released its preseason rankings for the 2019-2020 season, and the Old Dominion wrestling team is ranked in a tie for 21st on the website's list of the top-24 wrestling programs in the nation.
The prominent wrestling website also named three members of the Monarchs in its individual weight class rankings as well, as senior Larry Early, junior Michael McGee and senior Sa’Derian Perry are all recognized in their respective weight classes.
FloWrestling has Early ranked fourth in the country in the 157-pound weight class. He is coming off a season where he garnered All-American honors after placing eighth at the NCAA Championships. He also defeated NC State’s Hayden Hindlay last season, the top-ranked wrestler on FloWrestling’s list in the weight class.
McGee cracks the top-10 in the preseason poll, ranking eighth in the 125-pound class after posting a 31-6 record, winning the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Championship in his weight class and earning his second national qualifier in as many years in last year’s campaign.
Perry appears in FloWrestling's poll at 14th in the 141-pound class. Perry placed fifth in the MAC finals, earned a national qualifier and was nationally ranked throughout all of his first season with ODU in the 2018-2019 campaign.
All three of these Monarch wrestlers were also recognized in WIN Magazine’s preseason rankings, as Early, McGee and Perry ranked fourth, seventh and 14th in their weight classes, respectively, while the team came in at 21st.
Penn State sits atop FloWrestling’s preseason poll, followed by Iowa and Oklahoma State to round out the top three in the country.
