Bob Walton, an All-American pitcher hurled the Monarchs into the NCAA Eastern Regionalsin 1963 by defeating the University of Buffalo, capping a 7-2 record on the mound and anearned run average of 1.41. At the conclusion of that season, he became Old Dominion University''s first baseball All-American, an honor he would repeat in 1964 with a 9-1 recordand a 2.48 era.Owner of seven Old Dominion record, Walton rolled up a career record of 25-7. In addition,he owned the most consecutive complete games (8), most games started (33), most completegames (21), most consecutive scoreless innings (22), most consecutive shutouts (2) andfewest walks in nine innings (0) records.
Walton would later become one of the best high school football coaches in the State of Virginiaat Waynesboro High School which included a 10-0 record and area Coach of the Year honors.He also managed in the Valley Summer Baseball League.
