One of the most outstanding scorers in Old Dominion basketball history. Jeff Fuhrmann helped lead the Monarchs to the 1975 NCAA Division II National Championship as a sophomore,and then on to Division I prominence.
The Annandale, Va. native completed his career at Old Dominion as the school's 12th all-time scorer with 1,429 career points and as the 13th all-time rebounder with 627.
He also had a career free throw percentage of .833 which is still third all-time at ODU.In 1976, Fuhrmann was selected to the NCAA Division II Chamionship All-Tournament team and Regional All-Tournament team.
During his career at Old Dominion, the Monarchs competed in post season play all four seasons. The squad compiled a 89-29 record. In his senior season of 1976-77, Fuhrmann helped lead the Monarchsin its first Division I season and a 25-4 record. That season, Old Dominion defeated Virginia in Charlottesville, captured the ECAC South title with an 80-58 win at Georgetown, in McDonough Arena which gave the Monarchs the state's longest winning streak of 22, and for a few hours on March 5, 1977 the nation's longest streak. He also scored 21 points in ODU's win over Mississippi State.
Fuhrmann led the Monarchs in free throw percentage for three straight seasons. He was the teams leading scorer in 1975 with a 16.3 per game average and in 1976 at 18.6. As a sophomore, Fuhrmann scored 30 pointsagainst George Washington along with 14 rebounds in 1974-75.
In his junior season, he helped lead the Monarchs to a fourth place finish in the 1976 NCAA Division II National Championships. In the NCAA semi-final game that year, Fuhrmann scored a 32 points along with14 rebounds against Puget Sound. Earlier in the season he scored a career high 36 points and 19 rebounds against Charleston Baptist. That year, the 6-5 Fuhrmann performed seven double-doubles.
Jeff Fuhrmann graduated in 1977 with a degree in sociology. After graduation, Jeff played for Athletes in Action. He is now teaching at Portsmouth Christian High School. Jeff was inducted into the OldDominion University Sports Hall of Fame in 1996.
