NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women’s soccer team (6-0-1) remained undefeated after downing William & Mary (2-5-1) by a 5-0 score on Sunday night at the ODU Soccer Complex. The start to the 2019 season is ODU’s best since 2006, while the victory over the Tribe is the first for the Monarchs since 2005.
In the 30th minute, Amanda Nhek gave ODU a 1-0 lead off a double assist from Emily Roberts and Emma Gervase. Nhek has scored a goal in all seven games for Old Dominion this season and dating back to last season, Nhek has now scored in nine consecutive matches for the Monarchs.
Kyra Ricks gave ODU a 2-0 lead in the 37th minute after finishing an Ece Turkoglu pass. The goal was Ricks fourth of the season and marked her third straight game with a goal.
In the second half, the Monarchs picked up where they left off, as Morgan Hall gave ODU a 3-0 lead in the 78th minute. Nhek was credited with the assist.
Emily Roberts scored her first goal of the season in the 85th minute off a double assist from Emma Terefenko and Kyra Ricks.
With two seconds remaining in regulation, Blair Voliv put away an Indiah Hunter pass to ultimately lift Old Dominion to a 5-0 victory in front of 457 fans in Norfolk on Sunday night.
Old Dominion will return to action on Friday, Sept. 20 at 8:00 p.m. ET, when the Monarchs travel to Denton, Texas for the Conference USA opener against North Texas [RV]. ODU will then return home on Sunday, Sept. 22 for a non-conference showdown against Auburn of the SEC at 3:30 p.m. at the ODU Soccer Complex.
