PAWLEY’S ISLAND, S.C. – In the field of 82 golfers, senior Chris Ayers finished tied for fourth place to lead the Old Dominion men’s golf team to a fourth-place tie at the Golfweek Program Championship, hosted by the Caledonia Golf & Fish Club on Tuesday afternoon.
Ayers shot a 69 on the par-70 course in the first round on Monday morning, and followed it up with a 66 in the afternoon session, placing him at 5-under after the first two rounds on Monday. In the finale, the senior kept the momentum going, posting a 67, bringing his total to 8-under par.
Teammate Carter Morgan also put in a top-20 effort, shooting an even par in the three rounds, including an opening-round 66, to place 17th.
Junior Gustav Fransson finished in a tie for 27thwith a 4-over par, while senior Chandler Wilkins placed in a tie for 46thwith an 8-over par. Freshman Filip Wetterqvist began his collegiate golf career with a 10-over par, good for a tie for 54thplace.
Overall, Old Dominion’s 1-over par tied them for fourth with USC Upstate. Jacksonville (-12), Jacksonville State (-9) and Florida Atlantic (-8) finished first, second and third, respectively.
UNCW’s A. Segundo Oliva Pinto finished atop of the individual leaderboard with an 18-under par, four strokes lower than the second-place finisher.
