NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion (0-1-0) men's soccer team fell to LIU (1-0-0) in their season opener, 2-1 on Friday night. Sebastien Hauret was credited with the Monarchs only goal of the night.
After 45 minutes of play, ODU and the Sharks were knotted 0-0.
ODU opened the second half with a 5-2 advantage in shots and a 4-2 advantage in corners. Hauret made contact with the ball to the net after Kostas Mylonas headed one to the post that rebounded right to Hauret in the 62nd minute. The Monarchs played nearly the entire second half a man-down after Roger Rojas-Goodbold received two yellow cards, resulting in an ejection.
LIU proceeded to score two goals late in the second half.
Djibril Doumbia made his debut in goal and earned four saves. Newcomer Danny Durkin took four shots.
