BILOXI, Miss. -- After trailing the entire game Old Dominion University baseball mounted a comeback in the eighth inning against UTSA, but the rally fell short and the Monarchs' season ended with a 3-2 setback to UTSA at the Conference USA Baseball Tournament in Biloxi, Miss. ODU ends the season with a 35-21 record.
UTSA scored a run in the first inning on a passed ball and tacked on a run in the third on a Bryan Arias home run. The Roadunners pushed across what what proved to be the game-winner on a sacrifice fly.
ODU mounted a comeback in the bottom of the eighth as Bryce Windham scored on a wild pitch and Andy Garriola followed with a run-scoring single. The Monarchs had a chance to put more on the board with runners on first and third and one out, but Will Morgan struck out and Ryan Teschko popped out to end the threat.
Garriola had a pair of hits in the loss for the Monarchs. Ryne Moore picked up the loss, but tossed seven innings, allowing five hits, two runs, one earned, striking out four.
