NORFOLK, Va. – ODU men’s tennis assistant coach, Sergey Avdeyev, was named the ITA Atlantic Regional Assistant Coach of the Year on Saturday.

“All that we accomplished in the past three years could not have been done without Sergey’s hard work and determination for ODU athletics,” explained ODU head coach Dominik Mueller. “He embraced being a Monarch and puts it on display every single day. He is doing a fantastic job with our players on courts and is one of the best assistant coaches in the country. We are blessed to have him at ODU and hope to keep him around for much longer. It’s a well-deserved recognition for his work over the last three years and another milestone for our program.”

Over the past three seasons, Avdeyev has helped lead ODU to national team rankings and one of the top teams within the C-USA. Last year, the Monarchs won the Conference USA Tournament and punched their ticket to the NCAA Tournament. This season, Aziz Kijametovic won the Regional Singles crown. Avdeyev also helped Kijametovic to a national singles ranking this year, as well as a doubles ranking with teammate Francois Musitelli.
