BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Old Dominion overcame a five-run, eighth-inning deficit to defeat UAB, 9-5, in 11 innings on Sunday afternoon at Young Memorial Field, handing ODU the series win.

Old Dominion (18-13, 3-9) won its first Conference USA series since May of 2017. The Monarchs had lost, or split, 14 consecutive C-USA series.

UAB (14-19, 2-10), behind seven shutout innings from starting pitcher Tanner Graham, carried a 5-0 lead into the eighth.

ODU answered, scoring five runs in the top half of the eighth to even the score. Vinnie Pasquantino drilled a three-run home run, his second homer of the weekend, to pull the Monarchs within one and then Ryan Teschko tied the game with an RBI single.

Aaron Holiday tossed four shutout innings of relief to keep the Blazers at bay, until the 10th, when UAB loaded the bases with zero outs. In came Michael Blanchard, who masterfully escaped the jam with a strikeout and a pair of groundouts.

Carrying the momentum from Blanchard, the offense then plated four runs in the top of the 11th to the clinch the comeback win and the series.
