BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Old Dominion, with a six-run lead, was three outs away from sweeping No. 28 Florida Atlantic on the road, but the Owls mounted a seven-run ninth inning rally to salvage a win in the series finale.
Old Dominion (26-17, 9-12) led 7-1 entering the ninth inning. Starting pitcher Ryne Moore tossed eight masterful innings, but a three-run home run from FAU's Mitchell Hartigan chased Moore in the ninth with no outs.
FAU then strung together a series of free passes and hits off of the Monarch bullpen, before Pedro Pages won it for the Owls with a 2-RBI single with one out.
For Moore in his eight innings pitched, he allowed four earned runs on 11 hits, while walking none.
Offensively for ODU, Bryce Windham went 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and three runs scored. The home run was Windham's first out-of-the-park home run of his career.
Tommy Bell also hit a home run for ODU, a two-run shot in the sixth inning. Vinnie Pasquantino and Andy Garriola both had two hits and an RBI. Pasquantino and Garriola combined for 12 RBIs in the series.
ODU was trying for the first sweep of a ranked team since 2000.
Up next, it's the Commonwealth Classic against Virginia Tech on Tuesday at Harbor Park at 7 p.m. ET. Tickets are available for purchase here.
