GORDONSVILLE, Va. - The Old Dominion women's golf team was defeated by Virginia in match play by a 3-2-0 final. Leah Onosato and Charlotte De Corte picked up wins for the Monarchs on Friday afternoon.
"It was a great day! We really enjoyed the match play format and getting to compete against UVA. It was very competitive and the final score came down to the last hole of the last match," said head coach Mallory Hetzel.
To open the day, Noemie Sudron was defeated by Julia Ford. Onosato won her match 1-up to earn ODU's first win of the day. The Hoos took back the team lead after Sana Tufail fell to Morgan Gonzales. De Corte took out No. 60 Beth Lillie to tie up the match between the two teams. It came down to the final match, where Freshman Jana Melichova dropped a close one to No. 46 Anna Redding as Virginia won the final team point.
"The conditions were tough with a lot of rain and windy and the course played long, which should prepare us for Washington. I can't think of a better way to get ready for NCAA's. We are excited for the next one!"
