NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women’s soccer team improved to 3-0 for the spring season after taking down Loyola by a 2-0 score. The Monarchs have now outscored their opponents 10-0 in their three spring games this season.

On a 75-degree day at the ODU Soccer Complex and the Monarch Soccer Sisters program on hand, Old Dominion scored its first goal in the 22nd minute, when Allie Brimmer picked a pass off in the ODU half and played a through ball for Kyra Ricks to spring the counter. Ricks ran around the last Loyola defender and got to the ball just before the onrushing opposing goalkeeper. Rick’s last second touch around the goalkeeper resulted in her being fouled by the Loyola goalie, about 10 yards outside the box. The resulting free kick was taken by Brimmer, who ripped the ball over the wall and into the side netting of the goal, giving the Monarchs a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

In the 83rd minute, Old Dominion earned a throw-in, in which Emily Roberts found the head of Riley Kennett who flicked it on to Blair Vilov. Vilov got under Kennett’s header and sent it on to the back post, where Ricks beat both the defender and keeper to the ball and put it away, giving ODU a 2-0 lead and ultimately victory.

ODU’s defense faced pressure from Loyola, particularly in the second half, but battled to keep the game scoreless for the Monarch’s third consecutive shutout this spring.

Next up, the team hosts its alumni on April 13th for Alumni Day and then travels to play at N.C. State on April 14th.
