HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- For the first time this season, Old Dominion baseball was swept, as the Monarchs fell to Southern Miss, 9-0, on Sunday afternoon at Pete Taylor Park.
In the friendly confines of their own ballpark, Southern Miss (15-6, 6-0) continued to swing hot bats, scoring seven runs in the first inning en route to the win that capped off the series sweep of the Monarchs (15-8, 1-5).
The loss snapped ODU's four-game Sunday winning streak and handed the Monarchs just their second series loss of the season.
Jared Hancock had one of ODU's three hits, a double in the seventh inning, for his first collegiate hit.
On the mound, Hunter Gregory had a strong outing out of the bullpen, striking out a career-high eight in 4.1 innings of work.
Up next, Old Dominion heads to William & Mary for a midweek game on Tuesday at 6 p.m. ET.
