HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Old Dominion baseball team was unable to figure out Southern Miss starter Walker Powell and dropped game one of the series, 11-0, on Friday night at Pete Taylor Park.
Powell held Old Dominion (15-6, 1-3) to just three hits on the night and walked none.
Bryce Windham, Andy Garriola and Tommy Bell recorded hits for the Monarchs.
Southern Miss (13-6, 4-0) scored a run in the first and then broke the game open with three runs in both the third and fourth.
Nick Pantos received the first loss of his ODU career, allowing six earned runs in four innings of work.
Game two is slated for tomorrow at 3 p.m. ET. Reigning Conference USA Pitcher of the Week Ryne Moore is scheduled to start for the Monarchs.
