NORFOLK, Va. -- For the first time since May of 2017, the Old Dominion baseball team won a series, earning a two-game sweep of Binghamton with a wild 12-9 win over the Bearcats on Sunday at the Bud Metheny Complex.

After a 2-1 pitchers' duel in game one on Friday, the bats came alive on Sunday. Old Dominion (3-2) pounded out 18 hits, including home runs from Kyle Battle and Matt Schwarz and a career day from Tommy Bell, who went 4-for-5 with two doubles and four RBIs.

The Monarchs broke open a close game with a six-run fifth inning and would lead 9-1 through seven.

However, Binghamton (0-5) cut the lead to 9-7 with a six-run inning of their own in the top half of the eighth. Then, after ODU extended its lead back to 12-7 with three in the bottom half, the Bearcats again threatened, plating two in the ninth before stranding the bases loaded.

True freshman Aaron Holiday earned his first career win as a Monarch, tossing 2.2 shutout innings of relief with five strikeouts. Trey Fisher then came on to close the door in the ninth for his first career save.
