MELBOURNE, Fla. - After a final round 282, the Old Dominion women's golf team finished in sixth place at the Moon Golf Invitational held at Duran Golf Club. ODU was led by freshman Leah Onosato, who shot a third round 69 (-3) on Tuesday afternoon.
"The goal today was to come out and do what we do in the final round, and that is make birdies and have fun doing it," said head coach Mallory Hetzel. "We have been playing really well and it's great to see some more low scores. For the Florida swing we are a combined 12 under par. I can't imagine a better time to be a part of ODU golf."
Onosato's three round total of 214 topped her career low by one stroke. Finishing in a tie for 23rd, Abigail Portyrata posted an even par 72 to close out the tournament. Charlotte De Corte and Jana Melichova also posted even par scores (72) on the 6,262-yard track, they both finished in a tie for 30th in the 90-player field.
After her third round 70, Sana Tufail jumped up 17 spots to finish in a tie for 30th along with De Corte and Melichova. Tufail's 40 pars this week was second-most in the field.
ODU finished ahead of No. 32 Kennesaw State and No. 50 Augusta. They also routed C-USA opponent FIU by 30 strokes.
"We look forward to getting back to work next week. We have some time before Briar's Creek to practice and get better."
